HOCHE Avocats advised Canal + and Groupe Les Echos for the acquisition of Mezzo
Hoche Avocats has advised Canal + and Groupe Les Echos on the acquisition of Mezzo SA from the Lagardère and France Télévisions groups.
Established in 1998, Mezzo SA produces and broadcasts two pay-TV channels « Mezzo » and « Mezzo Live HD », dedicated to classical music, jazz and dance.
Now equally held by Groupe Les Echos and Canal +, Mezzo SA will be able to draw on the complementary expertise of its shareholder groups ; which have defined a division of their roles in the management of the two foresaid TV channels, the former acting as operator and the latter as distributor.
This acquisition completes a series of acquisitions enabling Groupe Les Echos, on the one hand, to develop a diversified offer of thematic media, in particular in the area of culture, and consolidate a leading media division in classical music alongside Radio Classique, and with regards to Canal +, on the other hand, to develop a niche brand recognized either in France and internationally by relying on the Canal + group’s assets and know-how.
